The Jacka really loves his collaborative albums. On January 21, he and Laroo will be reuniting to release No Mercy, a continuation of their Never Be The Same series, digitally and in select music stores. Serving as a prelude for Highway Robbery, Freeway and The Jacka release a mixtape titled Write My Wrongs. The concept is that they want their good deeds to outweigh their bad ones when they finally go to Heaven. It’s full of records that won’t be on the album, several skits and interludes and one record (“Cherry Pie”) that’ll be on their album. Freeway and The Jacka come together in true collaborative album form with Highway Robbery. Freeway is usually consistent but has surprising taken a quiet approach in 2013. That doesn’t last all year, though. This fall is aiming to provide some good material. He’s working on an album with a producer he’s never worked with, and now the announcement of Highway Robbery finds him teaming up with Bay area’s The Jacka. The album will be out in November. Leave it up to hip-hop to present us with combinations that don’t seem likely. While Blanco and The Jacka are easily an acceptable combo, add in AraabMuzik producing an entire EP and it makes you scratch your head. Not in a negative fashion, though. For the first single off their Misfits EP, “Optimistic” features a slower Araab production that allows Freeway to deliver a stand out hook while the four MCs handle the verses.
