Review: Schoolboy Q – Oxymoron

Review: Schoolboy Q – Oxymoron

Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron has been fighting an uphill battle since Q announced it as his follow-up to 2010’s excellent Habits & Contradictions. Oxy was initially slated for a third quarter release in 2013, then a fourth quarter release, then it didn’t have a date, and finally landed this February. Top Dawg and Schoolboy blamed the delays on sample clearance issues; it’s hard to believe the label that took hip-hop and pop culture at large by storm with good kid, m.A.A.d city didn’t have the resources to get around that. More likely is that the songs Schoolboy was dropping (namely, “Yay… continue reading

Video: Schoolboy Q – Man Of The Year

Whatever is going on in hip-hop right now, Schoolboy Q’s “Man Of The Year” is being criminally slept-on. It sounds like the closest thing to a hit since “Hands On The Wheel.” Hopefully it’s being a slow builder. The video will help with Q finding himself acting out the hook on camera with a warm-looking island full of women. It’s a party over here. Oxymoron out February 25. Previously: Future Ft. Future Ft. Diddy & Schoolboy Q – Shit (Remix)

Without further ado, the third and final remix to Future’s “Shit”. Doing the honors are none other than TDE’s Schoolboy Q, and Diddy. Both of them kill it too. This one, along with the two prior installments, will be included on Mike Will Made It’s forthcoming Future hosted-mixtape #MikeWiLLBeenTriLL, out December 23. Previously: Future Ft. ScHoolBoy Q – Man of the Year

Schoolboy Q’s contribution to NBA Live 2K14 is “Man Of The Year,” another record that questions how many times he can continue to provide something worth playing over and over to anything not named Oxymoron. This might be one of the best bangers of Q’s year. A release date for his album is coming next week, which is likely to be in January as he specified in his “Shot You Down (Remix)” verse. Video: Schoolboy Q – Banger (MOSHPIT)

We’re concluding TDE’s three days of putting a strangle hold on the internet with a video for Schoolboy Q’s “Banger (MOSHPIT)” that was released last month. The black and white visual finds Groovy Q getting into the energy of the song as he bounces around and recites the lyrics with enthusiasm. Directed by Jerome D. Oxymoron will be out in January. Isaiah Rashad is one of the two TDE signees, as if you didn’t hear the buzz surrounding the signing, that hasn’t necessarily impressed like his fellow label mates yet. The remix for “Shot You Down” is a good start. Rumors were that all four Black Hippy members would be joining but two is just as good when it’s spread out to a little over seven minutes. Simply no way you can’t enjoy those long form verses, especially when Schoolboy Q cleverly gives us his debut album release month (spoiler alert: January). Follow @SermonsDomain
