J. Pinder isn’t a household name yet, but the 23-year-old has had an epic journey so far trying to make that happen. A lot changed when he moved to California and most recently getting to work with Dr. Dre. In “Pilgrimage,” we get to sort of see a glimpse of his life, why he chose rapping over basketball and appearances from DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Rapper Big Pooh and more. Dr. Dre’s new buddy J. Pinder got together with clothing brand YukTheWorld to shoot a video for this new track titled “Loaded Gun.” Whenever he and Vitamin D get together, it’s sure to be a smooth joint that showcases both of their talents nicely. Sol takes another jump to claim the #6 spot and push J. Pinder back to #7. It was a unanimous decision by everyone on the panel except myself. Last November, Pinder released Careless Redux, which got attention from all the major blogs and had names like Marsha Ambrosius, Rapper Big Pooh and Focus attached to it, and the rumor I’ve heard is that he’s being courted by a couple major labels on the West Coast. Since J. Pinder is up for a spot on XXL’s Freshmen ’13 list (vote here), he decided to drop a new record with the tall homey Vitamin D on the boards. It would be easy to sit here and write my case for why he deserves a spot, but “Young Ra Ra” is a taste of why. It’s just a bunch of deep thoughts scribbled onto paper and recorded in the booth.
