Video: French Montana – Hip Hop Chronicle Interview

Sumit catches up with French Montana in his studio to discuss what he believes is his way to success, transition from mixtape to an album and more. French needs to do that stuff he did with Max B on his solo scene. That’s what was working for him. I also heard the rumor that French was off Konvict. It sounds like in this interview he confirms it without actually saying it by saying he’s got a few deals to put out the album. Hit the jump to see his video for “Dope Man”, directed by Mazi-O.

French and Joey Crack hit the night streets to shoot the latest single. I still dislike everything about the record but someone out there has to be loving it. Directed by Picture Perfect.

Cocaine Mafia! Yes, this is where this expected collaboration will end up. I don’t know how I feel about this one. It’s just not striking out as anything worth listening to. French is trying so hard to fit in with the southern sound. Coke Boyz on the way. Maybe that’ll live up to expectations since DJ Drama, DJ Diggz and DJ Lust are behind it. Shouts to DTT.

Oh man! This is the record I’m still waiting on untagged but French took it upon himself to add his own spin to it with a short and sweet 16. My birthday girls. Big Booty girls. I like girls that like other girls. Ha. I love the chorus. Shouts to Zack. This is not on Coke Boyz BTW.

You may remember these two have collaborated in the past on “I’m On It”, which turned out to be an incredible collaboration. Now, with Coke Boys on the horizon, the two drop another one that doesn’t live up to it’s hype. French provides one of his lazily made choruses while Wiz does his best over this beat. Shouts to Zack.

French is trying way too hard now. He used to be one of the few I felt would be the top dogs in NY. Now, he’s switched up his style to better serve a Southern purpose. Linking up with Lex Luger for some of his similar production and gathering the Three 6 clan for the second collaboration off Cocaine Mafia.

G.I. Ft. Jadakiss, French Montana & Beanie Sigel – Overcame It All (Remix)

After a star studded video, Big Skeem releases the audio for G.I.’s insane remix. Those Saxophones, I’ve said it every post, are so damn hard. Big Sha really did his thing on this production. If Beanie’s verse sounds familiar it’s because he did a freestyle somewhere using it. Hit the jump for his “B.M.F. Freestyle” video.

The MP3 we have only contains Jada’s verse. The whole audio is coming soon and will be featured on his upcoming Don Cannon hosted tape. This is hard! Hold up, is Beanie’s verse recycled? I swear I’ve heard it. Hm. Still hard though. That Saxophone..wow.

French Montana Ft. Chinx Drugz & Flip – Lie To Me (Prod. By Harry Fraud)

The man who claims to be running NY right now is back with another joint off Coke Boyz. Harry Fraud is such a good producer. I wonder when he’ll step outta French’s shadow and blow up. It seems as though Chinx Drugz might as well be signed to Cocaine City. Flip, I believe (unless it’s the wrong one), is from Far Rock. He was a Riot Squad affiliate. The tape drops next week. Shouts to Mr X.

Preach On, Sermon: The French Cafe…?

Red Cafe is the one artist from NY who I can’t believe hasn’t blown up bigger than what he is now. His singles have been nothing but fire (minus the Dream Team one) and the mixtapes expand on that. Usually when a single is everywhere, the said artist is “on”. Most of those artists end up working at your local McDonalds serving you the delicious but unhealthy french fries. Cafe hasn’t had that happen, so I’m hoping this shows signs of longevity.

Another NY artist seems to be following in his foot steps. Mr. Cocaine City himself, French Montana, has been coming with the same formula that Cafe has branded. French has dropped a few singles that popped on the airwaves and net and has the love from the DJs. The most popular being “NY Minute”. In similar fashion, and this is based on my own opinion, you have that weak “Run NY” record with Fat Joe.

Since Max went in, French hasn’t been the same. He’s a hit or miss artist now. Sometimes he has good records and others are like what were you off of when you made this? The majority of French’s best moments involve Max B. The whole Coke Wave movement was crazy and could’ve grew beyond belief if they had the chance to stick with it.

I’m not trying to disrespect Montana or nothing like that. I’m just pointing out observations I see. I could be bugging with this comparison. Who knows? I hope both of these guys reach the potential they can reach.
