Freeway is usually consistent but has surprising taken a quiet approach in 2013. That doesn’t last all year, though. This fall is aiming to provide some good material. He’s working on an album with a producer he’s never worked with, and now the announcement of Highway Robbery finds him teaming up with Bay area’s The Jacka. The album will be out in November. To display how it’ll sound, the duo is releasing Write My Wongs, a free mixtape, this month. “Combine The Coasts” is the first single. Directed by SUJ. Previously: Freeway – Hot New Hip Hop (Prod. The streets called. Freeway picked up and supplied what they asked for in the form of “Hot New Hip Hop.” The Alex Lustig-produced record also kicks off the site of the same name‘s brand new exclusive series. This joint might be one of the nicest Free songs in a while. He plays off the site’s name in a way that’s more universal to the rap game than anything, dropping scorching lines at the same damn time. It’s the beard, man. It has to be. That, and the Philly environment that turned these MCs into microphone murderers. For the latest Beard Gang collaboration, these five just spit back to back, giving the beat minimal time to breathe. The Beards In The Building is coming sometime this year. Now, move along, we have to create a perimeter around this area and white chalk the scene. Jakk Frost Ft. Blanco & The Jacka Ft. Freeway, C-Plus & Lil Rue – Optimistic (Prod. By AraabMuzik)

Leave it up to hip-hop to present us with combinations that don’t seem likely. While Blanco and The Jacka are easily an acceptable combo, add in AraabMuzik producing an entire EP and it makes you scratch your head. Not in a negative fashion, though. For the first single off their Misfits EP, “Optimistic” features a slower Araab production that allows Freeway to deliver a stand out hook while the four MCs handle the verses. The EP will be out January 29, and also features Mistah F.A.B, Krondon and more. Pre-Order: Blanco & The Jacka – Misfits EP Previously: Video: The… continue reading
