Throwback: Killer Mike – That’s Life (Prod. By Smiff & Cash)

A veteran in the game. I didn’t fully discover Killer Mike’s abilities until his solo mixtape, I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind. Out of every track, this was definitely the most powerful because of what he had to say about Fema, Martha Stewart, Oprah and more. I love records where you know the artist didn’t give a damn about what anyone had to say. None of the grind tapes have disappointed and I’m prepared for the third installment this fall.

“The comment Kanye made was damn near right/but Bush hate poor people be it black or white”

Throwback: Cory Gunz – Bones & Biggie Freestyle

Before the Young Money days, around 2003, Gunz was ripping and shredding beats on his Apprentice series. Easily my favorite from Volume 1, Cor takes a chunk out of the hard to spit on “Notorious Thugs”. I think he went in. I know you’ll think the same. Go listen to the three volumes of The Apprentice. Definitely worth it.

Throwback: Lil Wayne & Juelz Santana – The Bad Side

Back in 2007, this was rumored to be the first single off I Can’t Feel My Face. It would’ve been a good choice as both of them kill it. Doubt it could’ve peeked on the radio though. Of course, it’s 2010 and the album remains unreleased. At least every few months we get a random one from these DJs. I have constructed what the album should have been but that’s my own treat. Go find the records and make your own. Damn @ these two verses. WOW.

Throwback: The Diplomats – Hot 97 Freestyle

So as a collective team, the Dipset camp graced Hot 97 more times than most people. I don’t even know where this one comes from but it’s dope like all of them. It’s just Jimmy and Cam spitting over a pretty boring beat for seven minutes but they make it interesting. Sounds like this was around the Come Home With Me album. I could be wrong. Just enjoy.

Throwback: Royce Da 5′9″ Ft. Tre Little – Malcolm X (D12 Diss)

During the era of Eminem’s feuds with Benzino and Ja Rule, another emerged. Sad to say it was former friend Royce Da 5′9″ over a falling out. Instead of taking on Em head on and getting no response, he sought to take out D12 and created one of the best diss records of all time. “Malcolm X” was the second diss from Royce out of three he put out. So many lines, hard hitting and comedy, that just made this a memorable record. If you never heard it, catch up.

“You couldn’t fit Bizarre’s body in my shoes”

“You better hope you and the White Boy keep in touch/and be a good little hype man or your lease is up”

“Since Slim signed 50 I don’t see your teeth as much/It’s good cuz you got a grill like a fucking truck”

“I be on your porch with a Cheeseburger tryna lure you outside”

“That other nigga you got in your group I don’t even know his name but he can shovel my snow”

Throwback: Curren$y – Airplane + Paternity Test + Chauffeur Music

Back in early 2007, Spitta celebrated his Independence Day off YM. He was so focus back then. I can’t recall if these three were off the mixtape but they were the dopest songs that I had to save. He spits over a Fam-Lay beat on “Airplane”, Fabolous’ “Baby” for “Paternity Test” and the last is over Clipse’s “Hot Damn”. I like his story telling skills on “Paternity Test”. Enjoy and remember that Pilot Talk is out today. Go support.
