Philadelphia has birthed a lot of careers in the last five years. However, it has also caused a lot of artists to remain within city limits. Some don’t reach their full potential for numerous reasons. Meek Mill is not looking to be one of those people. Although he reps Philly all day, he has his mind set on the mainstream. With “Rose Red” and it’s remix blowing up on various radio and blogs, he’s coming out with Mr. Philadelphia alongside DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar.

“Well I got the name Mr. Philadelphia from one of the biggest DJs in Philly, Cosmic Kev. I been running with it since”, Says Meek on the inspiration behind the mixtape title. “It feels like as thought I’m making the most noise in my area, so I feel like I can hold the name down”.

It’s no secret that Meek is closely affiliated to T.I.’s label Grand Hustle. The two have been working together on various things, so the Philly spitter knows what to expect being around him.

“The best advice I’ve gotten from T.I. is grind hard”, he tells Sermon’s Domain. “That’s how I’m rising up so fasr. You grind hard, you shine hard.”

Speaking of T.I., he’s one of the guests on Mr. Philadelphia’s “Rose Red (Remix)”, produced by the talented Jahlil Beats. Rick Ross and the most buzzing artist in NY, Vado, also dropped verses on this stunning remix.

“Well T.I. is on the team, Vado is up and coming like me and Rick Ross showed love after I met him off Twitter. The whole city was retweeting him to get on the song”, He explains how the remix came about. “I would have gotten so many different people but the artist’s that’s on it is a good look so I’m happy”.

Features on Mr. Philadelphia include Beanie Sigel, Young Chris, Peedi Crakk, and more. You can download the project on August 24.

Killer Mike To Create “That’s Life Pt. 2″?

Categories:  Down South, Hip-Hop News

Yesterday on Twitter, I proposed that Killer make a part two. It’s been five years since the original and the world has done a lot of shady things or things that deserve to be called out. Who better than Bigga? He only agreed with me but it could be a sign of it on Pledge Allegiance To The Grind III.  If you never heard the original, I recently posted it. One of his best realest records of all time.

Paul Wall On Mike Jones: “I’d Say He Dug His Own Grave”

Categories:  Down South, Hip-Hop News
Tags: ,

In the upcoming issue of Ozone Magazine, Paul Wall had a lot to say about Mike Jones and his recent whereabouts. This is crazy to hear. I always had this perception that Paul Wall would end up missing, not Mike Jones. Read what Paul had to say about his old rapping buddy:

Where is Mike Jones?
I don’t know. Ever since he left Swishahouse I haven’t really kept track of him. I really didn’t know him too well before he came to Swishahouse. I’d say he dug his own grave. He lied to a lot of people, he turned his back on a lot of people, and he burned a lot of bridges. I don’t want to kick a dog while he’s down and I don’t wanna just talk shit about him, but I think a lot of people were happy when [Trae] punched him and knocked him out. But at the same time, a lot of people were mad at Trae too. It’s not like Mike Jones is the gangsta of the year, so in my opinion, you don’t really get points for beating up Mike Jones. Some people say it was a publicity stunt on Trae’s part, but I disagree with that totally because I know Trae and he doesn’t really do publicity stunts like that. If Trae feels disrespected, he’s going to address it. I think that’s what happened. If somebody disrespects you, [punching them] is not always the answer, but it’s definitely sometimes the answer. So I don’t feel like Trae was wrong in any form or fashion. Trae doesn’t do publicity stunts. But like I said, Mike Jones burned his bridge with a lot of people, so he probably had a knock out coming from somewhere at some time anyway. I’m positive of that.

I think because of the “Tippin’ on 44’s” record, people outside of Houston always had the perception that you, Mike Jones, and Slim Thug, were sort of a unit.
I would’ve liked it to be like that, but Mike Jones didn’t want that. He kinda wanted it to all be about him. If that’s how you want it, I’m not gonna be the one to beg you to stay around, especially since all my major success came not too long after the break up with me and Chamillionaire. I was in a mindframe where it was like, “If you don’t want to be here, I’m not gonna force you.” If you don’t want to be on the Swishahouse team together, I’m not gonna force you. I’ve gotta do me and focus on what’s best for me. I would’ve loved for us to be a unit but he didn’t want that, so that was his choice. When he left Swishahouse, he was dropping salt on everybody from Swishahouse and not giving us any credit at all. He was talking down on a lot of us and he would never directly say our names, but he was still hating. There were times when I felt disrespected and I would call him out on it, and he’d be like, “Nah, I wasn’t talking about you. I would never do that.” I’m sure there’s a psychological term for this problem that Mike Jones has. He has a problem. His perception of reality ain’t the real perception of reality. In his mind he feels like he hasn’t done anything wrong to me, Trae, or Chamillionaire. He feels like everyone else is trippin’ and he’s the victim. But that ain’t how it happened. We always say there’s three sides to every story. There’s your side, the other person’s side, and then there’s the truth. But in his mind, he’s the victim and he never did anything wrong to anybody. When somebody thinks that way, there’s no point in arguing with them. With that being said, I kinda washed my hands of him. I’m not worried about Mike Jones. I don’t wish no bad on him and I don’t hate him, but I’ve got to move in my own direction. There’s no sense in arguing with him. They say when two people argue, from a distance you can’t tell who the fool is.

Looks like Rozay has decided to go with LFDY as his next single, which is a great choice. I, personally would have went with ‘Tears Of Joy‘. Either way it’s a good look. Cover art above. Props to that boy, Nav

Maybe this is the track that got Shyne signed by LA Reid. I doubt it, but anyway. Tomorrow Shyne will release a brand new joint along with a video for ‘Belize’ which will feature Biggie and Bob Marley. I’m actually anxious to hear it, well Biggie’s verse anyway. XXL will premiere it. Official trailer above.

News: J.Cole Debut Album Pushed Up

With no official album title, Cole (well we don’t know it yet but he does have it) has finally got his wish and his album is set to be put out in September instead of October, like the label had set prior to him talking w/ Drew from FSD. No features on the album and Jermaine produced all but 3 tracks on the album, and all 3 that he didn’t, were produced by NO ID. Below check out what went on while Cole was in the Chi.

Jermaine Cole made his rounds in Chicago today, including a performance at WGCI’s car and bike show, a listening party at Plan B and hosting an event at Ontourage.

Unfortunately, the listening session wasn’t really a listening session as Cole and his camp didn’t want to play any new records in fear of us pesky bloggers and civilians recording and posting. Understandable in this day and age. I did get a chance to speak with J about the album, which is due in September, and I had to ask him about this work with No ID. Cole said he is producing the majority of the album by himself, but three of the non-J. Cole produced tracks, will be handled by No ID. He also said those three tracks are three of the most powerful on the album. Color me excited for that. I also hear No ID has been lacing Big Sean with some serious heat as well.

DJ Khaled Recalls Memorable Studio Sessions

Categories:  Down South, Hip-Hop News

DJ Khaled talks to Vibe about six of his most memorable studio sessions spanning his albums and work on other albums (“Free Mason”, “Lean Back” and “B.M.F.”) . They cover the likes of “We Takin’ Over” “All I Do Is Win” and more. A very good read to hear how some of these classics came about.

Kanye is great friend of mine. He was doing a show in Miami, and so I went backstage to try and find him. It’s hard to get with Kanye. You got to have patience, and he don’t just fuck with just anybody; everybody doesn’t get a verse from him. ‘Ye has to really respect you to work with you.

So I’m talking to him in the lounge area at the arena and I played him “Out Here Grindin’” before it leaked and he went crazy. And then I played him the “Go Hard” beat, and I started singing the hook right there myself. His eyes opened up wide, and I knew he understood my energy.

I remember Don C was getting on him about getting the record done. He called me a few weeks later saying he was going to do the entire record. I got so hyped over that call. So I eventually caught back up with him in Atlanta backstage—just bumping into him on the fly, and he tells me that he finished the record. I remember Usher was there and Kanye pulls out his laptop and played the finished version in front of everyone in the room.

A crazy thing about the remix was that I asked Jay-Z to get on the record, and this was my first time reaching out to him, but I kept hearing that he loved the record. I didn’t receive anything in time to make the cut, so I thought it was a wrap. Low and behold, on Christmas Eve of that year, Lenny S. calls me and says ”Merry Christmas” and blessed me with the verse for the remix.

Lil Wayne Letter #4: As Time Flies

Categories:  Down South, Hip-Hop News
Tags:

I personally think what Weezy is doing with the internet and with his fans is great! Not many people would even consider doing this. Here is Letter #4, where he explains what he does during the day and also breaks down his lyrics (somewhat). If you wrote him and want to see if he replied to you, CLICK HERE for his responses.

Hello world… I’m good. Counting the days and still smiling. Most of those smiles come from hearing my kids’ voices over the phone. The others come from reading fan mail. Let me just say that I have the best fans in the world! The devotion, dedication, support, love, and most of all, prayers are simply the best. I never imagined that I could have such an impact on people’s lives. Because of this, I vow to be a bit more careful of what I say.

So I’ve been writing and let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I’m writing are… well there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them. Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair. I listen to the radio sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, and I hear the new music. I like some. I applaud my Young Money family for what they’re doing. As I’m not surprised. This is what we’re supposed to do. Congrats to Drake and Nicki for all their recent success. Those 2 are going to have me retiring early. I love my team. Much love to Tez and Mack. I know that people are inquisitive of what I do all day, so here goes. I wake up around 11AM. Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That’s my day.

I’ll end this letter, but never my love. I’m gone. Oh, and how ‘bout dem Lakers!?!

P.S. I thank my fans for appreciating me the way you do.

Tunechi.
