SD Freshmen ’12: Chase N. Cashe

Known for his production a little bit more than his rapping, Chase N. Cashe has been making all the right moves. This is without having to exhaust all his connections. One of the producers behind Lil Wayne’s “Drop The World,” Chase has been slowly rising in the game since. Whether it was producing on Drake’s Take Care (“Look What You’ve Done”) or linking up with DJ Drama for The Heir Up There, the moves were great.

For the second half of the year, Chase came out blazing with singles frequently, an entire mixtape full to be exact. Featuring top line production from Tha Bizness, Cardo, AraabMuzik and more, it was all just a little teaser for what he plans to do with his first Gangsta Grillz, The Heir Up There. The tape will mark a huge step in the road to success.

The future for Chase can go in many directions. He could follow in the footsteps of his fellow Surf Club brother Hit-Boy and take over the production game or continue on the path to becoming one of the hottest rappers in the game. Regardless, one of the heirs has stepped in the building. Everybody from the 504 needs to stand up and support this man right now.

The Ambassador of the Bay is really going to go hard with his Block Brochure triple albums. On this one, the ignorant levels get turned up to the maximum. You put three of the most colorful artists in the game over a Bangladesh beat is going to equal something special. Not exactly what I thought but it has potential to grow. 2 Chainz verse was the hottest. The Block Brochure drops March 27.

Mannie Fresh Talks Kanye’s Cash Money Records History + Possibly Signing To G.O.O.D. Music

As a child, Mannie was one of my favorite producers. He still is. As of the last few weeks, he’s been making some big moves that look to be reviving his career/elevating it to a higher level. He’s been in the lab with Kanye and the G.O.O.D. Music family and Dr. Dre recently. In another interview with HHDX, he reveals that Kanye could’ve potentially have been a Cash Money soldier and if he might sign to ‘Ye. There’s a lot of other topics discussed. Mannie never gives bad interviews.

DX: [Laughs] A little history question here: Is it true that Kanye tried to get on with Cash Money before he got down with Roc-A-Fella?

Mannie Fresh: Yeah, he did. And that’s how far we go back. It’s a blessing when you are good people. When Kanye first came around, I let him use my equipment. I didn’t know him from a can of paint. I just thought he was a talented dude. And I was like, “Here dude, you can use my MPC, my keyboards, whatever you need to do.” And that came back around by him reaching out right now.

He told me one of his stories [from when he was at Cash Money Records], he was like, “I called back home and I was like, ‘Dude, I’m using Mannie Fresh’s equipment, y’all a never believe this.’” So it’s like I said, you never know who is gonna be that guy.

Interesting. I do wonder how his career would’ve turned out had he became signed to Cash Money.

DX: Going back to that [tour] clip, you’re seen in there giving a nice little motivational speech to the G.O.O.D. Music fam. So does this mean you’re officially G.O.O.D. Music in-house yourself now?

Mannie Fresh: Well, we working that out. I’m kind of funny about signing with people. Dude, I’ve been through so much. And I’m not saying I think Kanye is a bad person, but I can’t tell you what that is right now. It’s really on me, and what space I’m in. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t do it, but it’s gotta be something that makes sense for me.
