The borough of Brooklyn is said to have 2.5 million stories to tell. An abundance of talent has emerged from Brooklyn over the years, but none quite like a prodigious talent known as Talib Kweli. From tales of urban life to romance, every shade of the Black experience has been presented throughout his career. Diggers Union representatives Hevehitta and DJ Unexpected have combined with Illroots to document his experiences with their new release “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn.” Inspired by the 1943 novel by Betty Smith, 30 tracks detail the life of a Brooklyn native who views life very differently from what many are accustomed to seeing. Rare/unreleased material, interviews and remixes combine to celebrate an exceptional, yet ongoing career. Be prepared to cop that new Reflection Eternal album “Revolutions Per Minute” on April 6th. Enjoy and be educated!
